About Brad Baker
First of all let me introduce myself, I am Brad Baker!
I am a photographer who loves the water most of all; its colours, textures and variety. Water fascinates me, especially how the light captures its beauty, form and reflections. Due to the fact I live near the ocean, water is always close to me.
The world holds many hidden wonders, which I see as abstract images and so my photography is the same. My passion is using photography to share these images with others and to experience as much of life as I can; either the assault of the senses in bustling Varanasi, India or the calmness and remoteness of desert outback Australia. Getting behind a camera is my way of connecting with the world and being inspired by my surroundings even while waist deep in water.
I was born, and grew up, in West Sussex in the UK and as a result spent many a fond year roaming the beautiful South Downs countryside. At 16, my career began as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer and therefore led me to me travelling through Germany, Switzerland and Austria. These countries I found breathtaking because of the amazing scenery. I backpacked in Australia in 1996-97 and fell in love with the place and thought maybe I’m living in the wrong country. I migrated to Australia in 1999 and still travelled rather a lot. During a road trip from Queensland to the Great Ocean Road in Victoria I borrowed a camera and as a result my photography started to evolve and became a real love of mine.
Expanding my vision
It was a visit to New Zealand’s South Island armed with my first DSLR camera that made me decide to take my photography to another level. I was frustrated by the gap between my vision and my skill level and so I successfully completed a 2-year course in Photo-imaging, gaining my Diploma in 2013. I was accepted as a member of the Australian Institute of Professional Photographers in 2014 and since then have been planning and conducting photo trips throughout Australia.
Lake Eyre is my first completed landscape shoot and I have another couple of projects in mind. Night photography has a draw for me and therefore I have been learning many new skills. Standing on mountains in the rain is something I like because I am there and so are the mountains and the rain.
Now you have heard all about Brad Baker, have a look at my galleries and you will probably see something you like.
